Laser engraving works on a wide range of materials, and the result looks slightly different on each one. If you are considering an engraved gift or product, this guide will help you choose the right material.
Wood
Wood is a rewarding material – engraving creates a warm, natural, darker impression. Suitable for gifts, keepsakes, signs and packaging. The look varies depending on the type of wood.
Metal
On anodised aluminium and coated metals, the laser creates a contrasting light mark, while on stainless steel a special process leaves a permanent mark. Ideal for plates, tools, keychains and industrial markings.
Glass
Engraving on glass (glasses, bottles, plaques) gives an elegant, matte, sandblasted look. An excellent choice for occasion gifts and awards.
Leather and faux leather
On leather, engraving creates an attractive embossed effect with a slightly darker shade – popular for notebooks, cases, belts and accessories.
Plastic and acrylic
Some plastics and acrylic are suitable for engraving or cutting; acrylic gives clean edges and is often used for signs and stands.
