One of the most common questions from customers is: “How much does laser engraving cost?” There is no single figure, as the price depends on several factors. In this guide we explain what affects the price of engraving and how to get an exact quote.
What affects the price of laser engraving
- Engraving time (machine time). Laser engraving is generally charged by the time the machine takes. A larger area and a denser (darker) motif mean longer time and a higher price.
- Material. Metal, wood, glass, leather and plastic are engraved with different settings. Some materials require multiple passes or special preparation.
- Size and complexity of the motif. A simple text is faster than a detailed graphic or photo.
- Quantity. For larger batches, the price per piece is lower, as file preparation is spread across more products.
- File preparation. If the artwork is already prepared in vector format, preparation is faster.
Why we charge by time, not by length
Unlike some providers who charge by cutting length, the fairest way to charge for engraving is by actual machine time. This way you pay exactly for the work the machine performed – a small text costs significantly less than a full engraving of the entire surface.
