The quality of the final print or engraving largely depends on the quality of the logo file. With a properly prepared file, you avoid delays and poor results. Here is how to prepare your logo for printing and engraving.
Vector files are best
For printing and engraving, the most suitable are vector formats: PDF, AI (Adobe Illustrator), EPS or SVG. Vector graphics can be enlarged as much as needed without losing sharpness, which is essential for clean edges and small details.
If you only have an image (raster)
Raster files (JPG, PNG) are made up of pixels. If you don’t have a vector file, make sure the image is in high resolution (at least 300 dpi at final size) and on a transparent or clean background. Small logos from the web often cannot be printed with good quality.
Colours: CMYK and Pantone
For printing, prepare colours in CMYK or specify Pantone (PMS) codes if you need an exact brand shade. Screen colours (RGB) may look slightly different when printed.
Text and fonts
Convert text to outlines so that fonts are preserved even on a device without the fonts installed. This way you avoid font substitution.
